Biodynamics

Biodynamic winemaking is about producing high quality wine without using pesticides, fungicides, synthetic fertilizers or other artificial ingredients. Since the very beginning we have relied on the use of native yeasts in fermentation, a low amount of sulfites and our home produced compost. In addition, we work with biodynamic applications such as powdered quartz put inside cow horns, yarrow blossoms, chamomile blossoms, stinging nettle, dandelion flowers and many others. Each of these preparations provides nutrition and protection from disease for our vines. All wine making activities are coordinated by a biodynamic calendar which takes into consideration the moon phases and indicates the right days for planting, pruning, adding the biodynamic preparations and harvesting. Since April 2010 Alpamanta is the first Argentinean winery to use special cement tanks in the wine-making process. These tanks, produced in Nomblot, France, provide a new innovative way of fermentation in a biodynamic way. They only contain natural materials which favors an internal movement of the wine without chemical manipulation. Furthermore, they guarantee low energy consumption throughout an excellent temperature retention. Alpamanta_terruño_biodinamia_1
